1. Having a standard pronunciation: Most Vietnamese learners have Vietnamese – English pronunciation or pronounce English incorrectly, so they cannot have good listening comprehension and speak English fluently and of course they cannot understand what foreigners speak.
2. Knowing the liaison principle: Most foreigners’ words have liaison. Therefore, you should know this principle and practise it until you are proficient in this.
3. Knowing intonation and word stress: Most Vietnamese learners speaking English without intonation and word stress meanwhile foreigners speak English with these. So, this is a reason why you cannot understand what foreigners speak.
4. Having a lot of vocabularies and good grammar: Many Vietnamese people say that listening to and speak English well without vocabularies and grammar. It is wrong because they are our “capital” that we can use and apply for four skills Listeing – Speaking – Reading – Writing. Without them, you cannot do anything.
5. Knowing how to analyse the context before listening: This is the most important part but most of you are not guided how to do this. Accordingly, you cannot have good listening comprehension.
