1. Incorrect grammar structure: Messy sentences or lacking of auxiliary components.
Many of you do not know well English grammar due to subjective study or basic loss, so the sentences you write are grammartically incorrect or confused, it means that you write them in sentimental way, like Vietnamese. Word phrases or compound words look like a sentence but actually it is not a complete and grammartically correct sentence. Therefore, when reaing it carefully, you will realize that it does not fully express an idea, a meaning or a message. And readers can’t understand what you mean. For example, ínstead of writing “The woman whose the red car is parked in front of the bank is a famous pop star”, then you write “The woman of whom the red car is parked in front of the bank is a famous pop star”. The accuracy of the sentence structure determines your score.

2. Write sentences clumsily and incoherently.
The way of thinking like Vietnamese or word-by-word is the cause of this mistake. A complete sentence is the one that must be in ít grammatical order. For example, instead of writing “My son goes to school everyday”, then you write “My son everyday goes to school”.

 

3. Using too many single sentences makes your writing discrete, monotonous.
Before you start writing paragraphs or essays, you usually write single sentences because you think this way is easy to read and learn. However, this way of writing will make your writing too monotonous and discrete, lack of coherence and harmony between the sentences and so your writing will not be good. For example, you should not write “She was exhausted. She stared at the page. she was unable to comprehend a single word” but you should write “Exhausted, she stared at the page, was unable to comprehend a single word”.

4. Subject and verb are inconsistent.
The harmony between the subject and the verb in the sentence is very important but many of you kame this mistake, especially complex sentences that have complex structures with many subjects and relative length. For example, you should not write “When he arrived at the furniture shop, they had been sold the table he wanted” but you should write “When he arrived at the furniture shop, they had sold the table he wanted”.

5. Wrong paraphrase due to lack of vocabulary and grammar structure.
With IELTS Writing, paraphrase skill is indispensable your work because, thanks to it, readers will understand what you mean. However, students often make this mistake because of the lack of vocabulary, are not good at grammar structure, do not know how to think that turn sentences from right to wrong. For example, you should not wirte “Reading books for children’s thinking development is necessary” but you should write “It is necessary for children to read books to develop their thinking or “Reading books plays an important role in the development of children’s thinking” or “Reading books plays an important role for children to develop their thinking”.
