Learning And Practicing New Format Of TOEIC 2020 With BIET Language Center In Nha Trang City

According to the official announcement of IIG that organizes TOEIC Test in Vietnam, the structure of new TOEIC will be applied from 1st June, 2019. Let’s find out the new TOEIC exam format!

Basically, the new TOEIC tes has not changed significantly and is not more difficult than the old one, but there is an increase or decrease in the numbers of questions between parts and there are many different kinds of exercises.

With Listening:
Reducing the numbers of questions in Part 1: Photograph description and Part 2: Question – Response. Increasing the numbers of questions in Part 3. Conversations have shorter talking turns but more talking turns. Conversations contain skimming parts such as going = gonna, … and incomplete sentences such as Yes, in a minute, Down the hall, Could you?, …

Part 3 has some conversations with 03 people talking (02 males 01 female or 02 females 01 male) instead of 02 like the old TOEIC. Each person in that conversation can speak with American, British, Australian, Canadian accent. Thus, you easily confuse the voices of those two men or women. Therefore, you must practice listening a lot to distinguish each voice and regconize whose voice.

Also, Part 3 and 4 have the additional question type that requires listeners to associate heard information with viewed table or chart. Tables and charts usually have title information, values related to the listening and are often simple, less dexterous. So, you should look through them to guess the topic before listening and choose the key words related to the topic while listening and then choose the correct answer.

Part 3 and 4 also have the additional question format that requires listeners to understand the meaning of the sentence in a certain context. This kind of question is difficult. Therefore, to do this kind of question, you need to listen the front and behind information of the sentene to understand the meaning and context of that sentence.

Regarding Reading:
Reducing the numbers of questions in Part 5: Fill in the blanks. Incresing a small numbers of reading comprehension questions of single paragraphs or multiple related texts. There are questions about understanding vocabularies in context. There are two new questiin types that test the understanding of the general structure of the paragraph in Part 6 and 7.

Part 6 has the additional question type that requires the readers to fill in a sentence in a blank instead of a word like old TOEIC. This type of question is more challenging because it takes you a little mỏe time to read and understand the sentences around the blanks and paragraphs before you choose the correct answer.

Part 7 has the additional readings including 03 paragraphs. With this type, you do the same way as for single or double paragraphs. The challenge for this type is time. Therefore, you only need to practice a lot and you can get used to it and do this type.

Part 7 also has a type of reading of phone messages, chat, … that requires the readers to deduce the writer’s meaning based on the context of the passage with many short forms and sentences without enough subjects and predicates and more spoken linguistic terms are used than written. The way to do this exercise is no different from others of Part 7.

Part 7 also has the type of question asking the readers to fill in a given sentence in 01 of the 04 blanks in the reading accordingly. The way to do this is like Part 6.

Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ (Educational Testing Service - ETS) đã phát triển chương trình trắc nghiệm TOEIC dựa trên cơ sở tiền thân của nó là chương trình trắc nghiệm TOEFL theo một đề nghị của Liên đoàn Tổ chức Kinh tế Nhật Bản (Keidanren) kết hợp với Bộ Công thương Quốc tế Nhật Bản (MITI) (nay là Bộ Kinh tế, Thương mại và Công nghiệp Nhật Bản (METI). Báo Asahi Shimbun đã phỏng vấn Yasuo Kitaoka, nhân vật trung tâm của đội ngũ có ý tưởng về chương trình trắc nghiệm TOEIC này. Do đó chương trình trắc nghiệm TOEIC có thể được xem là một chương trình lai Mỹ-Nhật.
Kỳ thi này được lập ra nhằm đánh giá trình độ thông thạo tiếng Anh của các đối tượng sử dụng ngôn ngữ này như một ngoại ngữ. Lúc đầu, TOEIC là một bài kiểm tra trắc nghiệm bao gồm 200 câu hỏi. Những câu này chia đều cho hai phần - Nghe hiểu và Đọc hiểu. Bài thi kéo dài trong hai giờ. Mỗi thí sinh nhận được điểm độc lập cho hai phần thi Nghe hiểu và Đọc hiểu trên một thang điểm từ 5 đến 495 điểm. Tổng điểm cộng lại có thang từ 10 đến 990 điểm. Chứng chỉ TOEIC có 5 màu, tùy theo kết quả: cam (10-215), nâu (220-465), xanh lá cây (470-725), xanh da trời (730-855) và vàng (860-990).
Trong phần thi Nghe hiểu, các thí sinh phải lắng nghe các cuộc hội thoại ngắn, các câu, câu hỏi và các bài nói ngắn để trả lời câu hỏi. Phần này bao gồm 100 câu hỏi. Thí sinh sẽ hoàn tất phần thi Nghe hiểu này trong 45 phút.
Phần Đọc bao gồm 100 câu hỏi về đọc và chia làm 3 loại - câu chưa hoàn chỉnh, nhận ra lỗi sai, và đọc hiểu. Thí sinh có thể trả lời các câu hỏi trong phần này tùy vào tốc độ làm bài của mình. Thời gian để hoàn tất phần thì này là 75 phút.
Những kiến thức chuyên môn hay từ vựng không được đề cập đến trong kỳ thi TOEIC.

* Những cải tiến mới
Sau một thời gian nghiên cứu, Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ (ETS) đã thiết kế lại bài thi TOEIC mang các đặc trưng của bài thi TOEIC cũ với thời gian thi, hình thức tổ chức thi và mức độ khó của đề thi không thay đổi. Thang điểm của bài thi TOEIC mới vẫn giữ nguyên và điểm số của hai bài thi TOEIC cũ và mới hoàn toàn tương thích nhau. Tuy nhiên, có cập nhật nội dung để duy trì tính khách quan, chính xác và hiệu quả của bài thi.
Việc đánh giá khả năng ngôn ngữ trong bài thi TOEIC mới được cải tiến bằng hệ thống câu hỏi phản ánh các ngữ cảnh cụ thể trong môi trường làm việc quốc tế hiện đại. Không phải tất cả các câu hỏi đều thay đổi, trong một số tình huống, thí sinh có cơ hội chứng minh khả năng ngôn ngữ của mình bằng cách lựa chọn câu trả lời phù hợp nhất với ngữ cảnh. Nói một cách khác, bài thi sẽ đánh giá tốt hơn phản ứng của thí sinh trong ngữ cảnh cụ thể tại nơi làm việc.
Bên cạnh đó, ETS tiếp tục duy trì tính chính xác và chất lượng của chương trình TOEIC nguyên bản. Thang điểm TOEIC vẫn không thay đổi (từ 5 đến 495 điểm cho mỗi phần thi Nghe hiểu và Đọc hiểu). Mức độ khó của bài thi TOEIC vẫn được giữ nguyên. Nhiều loại câu hỏi cũng không thay đổi.

* Một chút khác biệt:
Mặc dù phiên bản mới vẫn giữ một số đặc điềm cơ bản như thời gian thi: 2 giờ (Đọc hiểu: 75 phút, Nghe hiểu: 45 phút), số lượng câu hỏi: 200 câu, mức độ khó của bài thi TOEIC không đổi, thang điểm giữ nguyên, nhưng vẫn có một số khác biệt như đã nói ở trên.
Ngoài ra, còn có thêm một sự thay đổi khác nữa về ngữ âm trong phần nghe hiểu. Sẽ có một số ví dụ về giọng Anh - Mỹ (Bắc Mỹ), giọng Anh – Canada, giọng Anh – Anh và giọng Anh – Úc. Những ngữ âm này xuất hiện không đáng kể nhưng phản ánh những kiểu giọng tiếng Anh khác nhau đã được đào tạo và sử dụng trong môi trường làm việc quốc tế, chú trọng đến các ngữ cảnh ngôn ngữ cụ thể. Chính vì vậy đòi hỏi người học phải có phương pháp tổng hợp và khả năng nhận biết, tích hợp thông tin.

* Cấu trúc của bài thi TOEIC ngày nay:
Bài thi TOEIC ngày nay vẫn bao gồm 02 phần chính: Listening (nghe hiểu) gồm 100 câu, thí sinh phải làm trong 45 phút và Reading (đọc hiểu) cũng 100 câu và thí sinh làm trong 75 phút. Vậy, tổng thời gian làm bài là 120 phút.
Phần Nghe hiểu (100 câu/45 phút) bao gồm 04 phần, được đánh số từ Part 1 đến Part 4, tương ứng với Photos (bức tranh), Questions – Responses (hỏi – đáp), Short Conversations (hội thoại ngắn), và Short Talks (bài nói chuyện ngắn). Thí sinh phải nghe lần lượt từng phần và trả lời các câu hỏi. Các giọng có thể khác nhau như: Anh – Mỹ, Anh – Anh, Anh – Canada & Anh – Úc.
Phần Đọc hiểu (100 câu/75 phút) gồm 03 phần được đánh số từ Part 5 đến Part 7 tương ứng với Incomplete Sentences (câu chưa hoàn chỉnh), Text Completion (hoàn thành đoạn văn), và Reading Comprehension (đọc hiểu).
Hình thức các câu trả lời đều theo kiểu trắc nghiệm A-B-C-D, trừ các câu từ 11-40 của Part 2 chỉ có 3 phương án trả lời A-B-C. Thí sinh phải chọn phương án trả lời đúng nhất bằng cách dùng bút chì để tô đậm ô đáp án của mình. Bài thi TOEIC không đòi hỏi kiến thức và vốn từ vựng chuyên ngành mà chỉ tập trung với các ngôn từ sử dụng trong công việc và giao tiếp hàng ngày.

Bài thi TOEIC Speaking & Writing
Bài thi TOEIC ngày nay còn có thêm phần Speaking (Nói) & Writing (Viết) để thí sinh có thể đáp ứng cả 4 kỹ năng Nghe – Nói – Đọc – Viết mà nhiều vị trí ứng tuyển đòi hỏi. Bạn cũng cần lưu ý: Theo khuyến nghị của ETS, nếu đạt trên 500 điểm với bài thi TOEIC Listening & Reading thì bạn nên tham dự cả bài thi TOEIC Speaking & Writing để đánh giá đầy đủ cả 2 kỹ năng Nói & Viết. Điểm số của bài thi này được chia ra các cấp độ khác nhau được gọi là “các cấp độ thành thạo” (proficiency levels) chứ không dùng thang điểm như bài thi TOEIC Listening & Reading.

* TOEIC dùng để làm gì?
Mỗi năm có khoảng hơn 3 triệu người tham dự kỳ thi TOEIC. Điều này đã nâng tầm quan trọng của kỳ thi và làm cho nó trở thành một kỳ thi tiếng Anh phổ biến nhất ngày nay. Kỳ thi TOEIC được các khách hàng công ty quan tâm đặc biệt. Những doanh nghiệp này dựa vào điểm số TOEIC làm tiêu chuẩn tuyển dụng nhân viên và quyết định thăng chức hay tiến cử một nhân viên nào đó tu nghiệp nước ngoài. Các trường Đại học và các trường ngoại ngữ cũng dùng bài kiểm tra TOEIC để đánh giá sự tiến bộ trong việc học tiếng Anh đối với các sinh viên của họ, xếp lớp và cấp cho sinh viên một tín chỉ có giá trị quốc tế.

Trước đây tại Việt Nam, nhiều công ty, doanh nghiệp, tổ chức… thường sử dụng chứng chỉ tiếng Anh A, B, C quốc gia như một tiêu chí về ngoại ngữ để tuyển dụng, bổ nhiệm, sắp xếp nhân sự hay bố trí nhân viên tu nghiệp tại nước ngoài. Tuy nhiên, trong khoảng vài năm trở lại đây, chứng chỉ TOEIC nổi lên như một tiêu chuẩn phổ biến hơn để đánh giá trình độ thông thạo tiếng Anh của người lao động.
Xuất phát từ thực tế đó, nhiều trường Đại học, Cao đẳng đã đưa TOEIC vào chương trình giảng dạy và lựa chọn bài thi TOEIC để theo dõi sự tiến bộ trong việc học tiếng Anh đối với sinh viên theo từng học kỳ, năm học hoặc sử dụng làm chuẩn đầu ra tiếng Anh cho sinh viên trước khi tốt nghiệp. Chính vì vậy, việc học TOEIC, luyện thi TOEIC và lấy được chứng chỉ TOEIC đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc chuẩn bị hành trang kiến thức cho nhiều sinh viên và người đi làm.

* Điểm thi TOEIC & cách tính điểm bài thi
Điểm của bài thi TOEIC tối đa là 990 điểm và được chia đều cho phần Listening (495 điểm) và phần Reading (495 điểm). Mỗi câu trả lời đúng (phần Listening hoặc Reading) là 01 điểm và điểm này gọi là điểm sàn (Raw Score). Điểm sàn này sẽ được chuyển đổi qua điểm chính thức (Converted Score). Ví dụ: Thí sinh làm đúng 52 câu phần Reading thì được 52 điểm và sau đó được chuyển đổi thành 205 điểm chính thức. Và nếu thí sinh làm đúng 30 câu Listening thì được 30 điểm và được chuyển đổi thành 85 điểm chính thức. Tổng cộng: 290 điểm.

* Cần đạt bao nhiêu điểm TOEIC để được cấp chứng chỉ?
Kết quả của bài thi TOEIC không có mức điểm để quy định đậu hay rớt mà chỉ phản ánh trình độ sử dụng tiếng Anh của thí sinh. Tùy theo quy định điểm chuẩn TOEIC đầu ra của từng chuyên ngành của từng trường Đại học mà thí sinh phải, trước khi tốt nghiệp, đạt được số điểm đó thì mới đủ điều kiện thi ra trường.

* Một số mức điểm TOEIC tham khảo:
   • TOEIC 100 – 300 điểm: Trình độ cơ bản. Khả năng giao tiếp tiếng Anh kém.
   • TOEIC 300 – 550 điểm: Trình độ Trung Cấp. Bạn có khả năng diễn đạt, duy trì các cuộc đối thoại quen thuộc nhưng ở mức độ hạn chế.
   • TOEIC 500 – 600 điểm: Giao tiếp tiếng Anh khá.
   • TOEIC 600 – 850 điểm: Khả năng tiếng Anh của bạn trôi chảy.
   • TOEIC 850 – 990 điểm: Bạn đã thành thạo tiếng Anh. Nghĩa là bạn sử dụng tiếng Anh gần như người bản xứ.

Sau một thời gian nghiên cứu, Viện Khảo thí Giáo dục Hoa Kỳ (ETS) đã thiết kế lại bài thi TOEIC. Bài thi TOEIC mới vẫn mang các đặc trưng của bài thi TOEIC cũ với thời gian thi, hình thức tổ chức thi và mức độ khó của đề thi không thay đổi. Thang điểm của bài thi TOEIC mới vẫn giữ nguyên và điểm số của hai bài thi TOEIC cũ và mới hoàn toàn tương thích nhau.

* Điểm mới của bài thi TOEIC:
Một trong những sứ mệnh quan trọng hàng đầu của ETS là luôn luôn đảm bảo chất lượng các chương trình kiểm tra của mình bằng cách cập nhật nội dung để duy trì tính khách quan, chính xác và hiệu quả của bài thi. Bài thi TOEIC mới phản ánh kỳ vọng vươn tới sự hoàn thiện trong quá trình xây dựng các chương trình đánh giá giáo dục của ETS.

* Điểm khác biệt của bài thi TOEIC mới:
   1. Phần nghe hiểu có 4 sự thay đổi chính:
       • Giảm số câu hỏi hình ảnh trong phần 1
       • Câu hỏi không chỉ được viết mà còn được đọc qua băng casset trong phần 3 (Hội thoại) và phần 4 (Cuộc nói chuyện ngắn)
       • Thay các câu hỏi riêng lẻ bằng nhóm các câu hỏi trong phần 3 (Hội thoại ngắn)
       • Sử dụng giọng đọc tiếng Anh với các ngữ âm khác nhau, như: Anh - Mỹ, Anh – Anh, Anh – Canada và Anh – Úc.
   2. Phần đọc hiểu có 3 sự thay đổi chính:
       • Lược bỏ các câu hỏi của phần 6 (Tìm lỗi trong câu)
       • Thêm loại câu hỏi Hoàn thành đoạn văn (Phần 6)
       • Gộp nhóm câu hỏi đọc hiểu dựa trên 2 đoạn văn có chủ đề liên quan (Phần 7)
Ngoài ra, còn có thêm một sự thay đổi khác nữa về ngữ âm trong phần nghe hiểu. Sẽ có một số ví dụ về giọng Anh - Mỹ (Bắc Mỹ), giọng Anh – Canada, giọng Anh – Anh và giọng Anh – Úc. Những ngữ âm này xuất hiện không đáng kể nhưng chúng phản ánh những kiểu giọng tiếng Anh khác nhau đã được đào tạo và sử dung trong môi trường làm việc quốc tế. Với những thay đổi này, giá trị của TOEIC ngày càng được củng cố với vai trò là một chương trình đánh giá khả năng giao tiếp Tiếng Anh trong môi trường quốc tế.

* Các thông số cơ bản cho bài thi TOEIC mới:

   3. Nói (Speaking): 20 phút, 11 câu hỏi
   4. Viết (Writing): 60 phút, 8 câu hỏi.

* Thủ tục đăng ký dự thi:
   1. Thí sinh tự chọn ngày thi: Hoặc sáng thứ 3 hoặc sáng thứ 5 hoặc chiều thứ 4
   2. Sau đó, thí sinh điền thông tin cá nhân: Họ tên đầy đủ, ngày tháng năm sinh, số CMND và gửi về địa điểm thi dưới đây ít nhất trước một tuần.
   3. Thí sinh phải đến trước ngày thi một ngày để điền Form đăng ký. Khi đi nhớ mang theo giấy CMND gốc và một bản photocopy giấy CMND, 30USD và 3 tấm ảnh 3x4 mới nhất.
