The Difference between Do & Make

The two verbs “do” and “make” often confuse the learners because both can be translated "do" into Vietnamese. So, the learners don't sometimes know which word is correct.Here are a few points to note of these two verbs to help you make a suitable choice with each specific case.
 
The Difference between Do & Make
1. The ways of using “do”
    - We use “do” for daily activities but these ones do not usually create anything specific or create something new.
   E.g: do housework / do the ironing / do the dishes/ do a job
    - We use “do” when saying “do” in general, do not mention the exact name of the activity. It is usually gone with something, nothing, anything, everything…
    E.g: I’m not doing anything today.
            He does everything for his mother.
            She’s doing nothing at the moment.
- Some common ways of saying “do”:
   E.g: do one’s best / do good / do harm / do a favour / do business.

2. The way of using “make”
- We use “make” to express the acitvities that create something specific that you can touch.
     E.g: make food / make a cup of tea / coffee or make a mess
Some common ways of saying “make”:
     E.g: make plans / make an exception / make arrangements /make a telephone call
             make a decision / make a mistake / make noise / make money / make an excuse
             make an effort.
